At this late date a new French Riviera escape had better offer something unusual, and the Maybourne Riviera does exactly that. No boardwalk grand hotel, this modernist marvel stands on a rocky cliffside in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin; as its name suggests, it’s part of the same Maybourne group responsible for hotels like Claridge’s and the Connaught, so its luxury-hotel bona fides are not in question. The views are spectacular, whether from the rooms or from the infinity-edge pool, carved from the rocky cliff face.
