It’s a classic love story—with a twist. Owner Dieter Morszeck fell in love, not with another person, but with Portugal’s stunning Alentejo winemaking region. He bought more than 200 acres and set to work redesigning the estate with an eye on sustainability and a dream of sharing this beautiful place with discerning travelers. Mission accomplished. Quinta do Paral is a 22-room whitewashed hideaway that effortlessly blends a chic, contemporary ambience with respect for the area’s winemaking tradition. At first glance, these accommodations - defined by a minimalist sensibility - could easily be in a cosmopolitan destination but one glance out the window at the rows and rows of grapes is immediately grounding. This is a place to unwind by the pool soaking up the surroundings or walking or biking through the gardens and vineyards. Three restaurants put the focus on epicurean pursuits with plenty of wine tasting, naturally.
