Hotel Can Ferrereta

Sister hotel to the impressive Sant Francesc Hotel Singular, in the capital city of Palma, Hotel Can Ferrereta takes to the Mallorcan countryside, to similarly strong results. Like its sister, Can Ferrereta begins with a historical structure — in this case a 17th-century house in the village of Santanyí, near the island’s southeast coast, less than an hour’s drive from Palma. But the hoteliers didn’t stop there. Some of the rooms and suites are set in the new additions, which were designed to complement rather than contrast with the historical structure. The result is a luxe rural escape that feels somehow timeless — neither fashionably modern nor backward-looking in its devotion to tradition. Throughout, the attention to detail is striking and the craftsmanship is first-rate, and the in-room amenities are state-of-the-art — especially the bathrooms, arguably the true measure of any high-end hotel. Among the hotel’s attractions are a surprisingly well-equipped spa and fitness center, as well as an expansive outdoor pool and a stylish restaurant built in the house’s old wine cellar (and a more casual restaurant and bar by the poolside). Perhaps best of all, you’ll feel as though you have the village all to yourself — Santanyí is far less heavily traveled than some of the island’s other corners.
