Ace Hotel Kyoto
Ace Hotel Kyoto is the first Asian property from the Portland-born design hotel group, set inside the 1926 Shinpukan — a Showa-era former telephone exchange remodelled by Kengo Kuma's office in collaboration with Los Angeles studio Commune. The 213 rooms range from 28 sqm Japonisme bunks to top-floor tatami suites, dressed in handwoven indigo throws by Kasuri masters and prints by Samiro Yunoki. Stumptown Coffee and Mr Maurice's Italian occupy the ground-floor courtyard. The hotel anchors the Shinpukan retail block.
This 390-meter long market has a 400-year history, offering a variety of Kyoto’s food culture and unusual foodstuffs.
The Kamogawa River is an essential part of Kyoto’s scenery, with the Sanjo Ohashi Bridge within walking distance from the hotel.
A specialized paper store and small paper museum dealing in original and Japanese paper from throughout Japan.
